Raziskovalci poro\u010dajo o \u00bble blagih negativnih stranskih u\u010dinkih, kot so omotica, glavobol, slabost in zaspanost\u00ab.<\/p>\n<p>V \u0161tudijah, ki so zaznale te stranske u\u010dinke, je \u0161lo ve\u010dinoma za dnevne odmerke, ve\u010dje od 2 mg, pogostnost njihovega pojavljanja pa se statisti\u010dno ni relevantno razlikovala od tiste v kontrolni skupini (ali pa kontrolnih skupin ni bilo).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Opisani stranski u\u010dinki so mnogo bla\u017eji od tistih, ki jih obi\u010dajno povzro\u010dijo uspavalna sredstva, poleg tega pa u\u017eivanje melatonina ne povzro\u010da odvisnosti, ki je pri uspavalih obi\u010dajen pojav.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Vendar se omotica, glavobol, slabost in zaspanost lahko pojavijo \u017ee tudi pri u\u017eivanju 1 mg melatonina. Normalen u\u010dinek melatonina je zaspanost, zato ga je treba u\u017eivati le pred spanjem. \u010ce bi ga u\u017eili pred vo\u017enjo, bi zmanj\u0161al zbranost voznika, zlasti \u010de je vo\u017enja dalj\u0161a in je odmerek vi\u0161ji od 1 mg. Pri velikem odmerku telo potrebuje dalj \u010dasa, kot traja spanje, da ga izlo\u010di iz krvi; pri odmerku npr. 4 mg to traja do 10 ur. Zato se lahko pojavi zaspanost v budnih urah po spanju.<\/p>\n<p>Otroci in mladostniki imajo po naravi vi\u0161je ravni melatonina v krvi kot odrasli. \u010ceprav je ve\u010d raziskav pokazalo, da u\u017eivanje melatonina pri otrocih ni povzro\u010dilo negativnih stranskih u\u010dinkov, dolgoro\u010dni u\u010dinki u\u017eivanja melatonina zlasti pri mladostnikih in otrocih ni dovolj prou\u010deno. Nekatere \u0161tudije so pokazale, da se pri otrocih ob njegovem u\u017eivanju pojavijo dnevna utrujenost ali glavoboli, ki minejo po prenehanju u\u017eivanja.<\/p>\n<p>Tudi pri nespe\u010dnosti, ki nastane najpogosteje kot posledica nekaterih obolenj, se je melatonin izkazal kot varen, a manj u\u010dinkovito prikli\u010de spanje kot pri primarni nespe\u010dnosti. <em>Za svetovanje o prehrani bolnikov, doje\u010dih mater in nose\u010dnic je pristojen le zdravnik. Zato se je potrebno pred uporabo melatonina za izbolj\u0161anje spanja teh oseb posvetovati z zdravnikom. Zlasti je to potrebno, \u010de oseba u\u017eiva zdravila.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Melatonin se v medicini uporablja tudi pri zdravljenju velikega \u0161tevila zdravstvenih te\u017eav in ne le nespe\u010dnosti. Seveda je za svetovanje o uporabi melatonina pri zdravljenju bolezni pristojen le zdravnik.
