Za krepitev naravne odpornosti je pomembno globoko spanje, ki ga prikli\u010demo, \u010de je v telesu dovolj hormona melatonina. Ta ni le \u00bbhormon spanja\u00ab, pa\u010d pa neposredno spodbuja tudi delovanje imunskega sistema.<\/p>\n<p>\u017de leta 1988 je raziskovalna ekipa pod vodstvom G.J. Maestronija odkrila, da imajo celice T pomagalke na\u0161ega imunskega sistema receptorje za melatonin. Ko se ta prilepi nanje, za\u010dnejo izlo\u010dati signalne molekule \u2013 citokine, s katerimi usmerjajo delovanje celotnega imunskega sistema. Poglejmo, kako melatonin prepre\u010duje infekcije dihal.<\/p>\n<p>Za prepre\u010devanje infekcij dihal moramo imeti v slini dovolj imunoglobulinov \u2013 protitelesc, ki jih proizvajajo celice B imunskega sistema; z njimi nevtralizirajo ku\u017ene mikrobe. V preizkusu na univerzi Cornell (ZDA) so pri prostovoljcih, ki so u\u017eivali po 20 mg melatonina na dan, pove\u010dali raven imunoglobulina IgA v slini kar za 250%.<\/p>\n<p>\u017de manj\u0161i odmerki melatonina u\u010dinkujejo varovalno. V preizkusu iz leta 1994, v katerem je \u0161est mo\u0161kih jemalo dva meseca vsak ve\u010der po 2 mg melatonina, se je \u0161tevilo celic ubijalk NK (natural killers) imunskega sistema, ki ubijajo z virusi oku\u017eene celice, pove\u010dalo kar za 240 %. Tako majhen odmerek \u017ee izbolj\u0161a spanje in nas varuje tudi pred virozami.<\/p>\n<p>Klju\u010dno vlogo pri na\u0161i obrambi pred tujki imajo fagociti \u2013 to so levkociti, ki po\u017eirajo bakterije in druge patogene mikrooorganizme. Kar 2\/3 vseh levkocitov tvorijo te obrambne celice, ki obi\u010dajno tudi prve prihitijo na kraj oku\u017ebe. V Chicagu so leta 1994 v laboratorijskem poskusu ugotovili, da se je obrambna mo\u010d fagocitov v raztopini, v kateri je bilo toliko melatonina, kot ga je v na\u0161i krvi pono\u010di, pove\u010dala za 73%.<\/p>\n<p>Skratka, poskrbimo, da bo pono\u010di v na\u0161em telesu dovolj melatonina, pa bo spanje globoko in po\u010ditek krepilen, obenem pa nas bo to varovalo pred oku\u017ebami. \u010ce nas \u0161e ni dohitela starost, si pove\u010damo no\u010dne vrednosti melatonina tako, da smo podnevi vsaj eno uro na zunanji dnevni svtlobi (brez o\u010dal), da se pred ve\u010derom umirjamo in poskrbimo za razstrupljanje in da smo pono\u010di v temi, saj \u010de\u0161arika proizvaja melatonin v temi.<\/p>\n<p>\u017dal pa, kot smo \u017ee pisali, pri ostarelih to ne zale\u017ee. Njihova \u010de\u0161arika je kalcificirana in kot trdi dr. Russel J. Raiter, proizvaja zanemarljivo malo melatonina. Takrat pomaga u\u017eivanje melatonina kot prehranskega dopolnila.
